Christian teachers and those who educate them have long been thinking about what content to teach, but little scholarship has been devoted to how faith forms the actual process of teaching. While much attention has focused on whether Christian content appears in courses and Christian intellectual perspectives are reflected in curricula, we need a shift toward the question of how the embodied, social practices of the educational environment relate to Christian practices. Drawing upon the work of the past decade on teaching and Christian practices, this session will suggest some ways in which a focus on social practice opens up fresh questions for Christian educators engaged in the formation of Christian teachers and students.

This free pre-summit offering is limited to 30 attendees, so register early and guarantee your place.

GCSLS 2019 is designed around the opportunities leaders will need to address, through innovation, into the future. Because of this focus on innovation and the future of Christian education, the involvement of emerging leaders in Christian schools is key—as these emerging leaders will shape Christian schools for years to come. To encourage these leaders to attend GCSLS will feature an Emerging Leaders Program, limited to 50 participants. The program is offered at no additional cost beyond conference registration (which will be discounted at 50% for those selected).

Who are Emerging Leaders?

Emerging leaders can be new heads of school, those in mid-level leadership positions (e.g., assistant heads, principals, deans, department chairs), teacher leaders, or others who are not currently in a leadership position but who have the potential and desire to serve in a leadership capacity in the future.

The nomination deadline was November 1. Thank you for your interest.

What is Included?

The GCSLS Emerging Leaders Program includes:

  • Attendance at two pre-summit symposia sponsored by the Council for the Advancement of Christian Education (CACE):

    • Aspiring and Emerging Leaders Workshop (8:30–11:30 a.m.)

    • Maximizing Marketing and Enrollment Growth (1:00–4:00 p.m., see above for more details)

  • A 50% discount on GCSLS registration (a $220 value)

  • Build your professional library with complimentary copies of GCSLS speakers’ books

  • Receive a certificate of completion

  • Formal recognition at GCSLS, on the summit website, and on social media

There is no additional cost for participation in the program, beyond GCSLS conference registration (at a 50% discount, as indicated).
