Leading Well in Next Generation School Communities

Darren Iselin

The cautionary tales of drift within countless Christian educational communities reveal that sustaining the vision crafted by a school’s founding generation into organisational mid-life is a difficult and highly complex task. The challenge confronting next generation educational leaders is how to sustain that original vision during their cultural moment, whilst simultaneously responding innovatively, proactively and responsibly to change processes, new opportunities and ever shifting socio-cultural realities within their communities. This presentation will explore how this new generation of Christian educational leaders can lead well, as both guardians and re-imaginers of a vision that has been placed into their hands, during this critical phase of transition within Christian educational communities.

Creating an Enlightened Governance Culture for Christian Schools

William Mott

The stakes are high for the future of Christian education. The impact of governance and leadership on Christian schools is profound, and yet schools are reluctant to understand the influence of innovation and best practices on board culture that reveal 21st century ideas. The purpose of this workshop is to define what a board can look like that has adopted an innovative way of working with Christian school leadership that ushers in a new era of governance and leadership excellence.

Millennial Parents: Pitfalls or Promise?

Jay Ferguson

Millennials are a sometimes-feared and maligned emerging segment of our school family populations. While some of this concern may be simple fear of the unknown, research shows that the new parent group will inevitably challenge the way most Christian schools do business. For school leaders who prayerfully listen and adapt well, God will use the emerging parent generation to push agile institutions toward unprecedented levels of mission clarity and distinction. Jay Ferguson will identify and discuss ways that this incoming generation of parents will challenge school leaders to work smarter, and how to leverage the opportunities they present.
